Barrel Aged Beer & Cheese
The SF Beer & Cheese club met up again this past weekend to pour some barrel aged beers paired with some tasty cheese . Barrel aging tends to lead to big, bold beers, so our hosts Jason and Morgan put out a great spread of funky cheeses and tasty treats that would compliment our oaked brews.
For might part, I went full-out local and brought a magnum of Anchor’s Our Barrel Ale, a special reslease of Anchor ales blended and aged in his own Old Potrero rye whiskey barrels. It’s silky smooth with a full oak aroma and flavor that is not so subtly backed by an amber malt backbone that’s like Anchor’s Old Foghorn Barleywine, but with a darker roast.
Which was particularly good with the Morgan’s (of Morgan’s Menu fame) figs in dark chocolate with Japanese sea salt.
A few more choice pictures from the day:

Oh, man. I haven’t heard of the Anchor Our Barrel – where did you pick it up? Great photos, as usual. Looks like a fun day.
