MSF Canned Beer Night Recap
Whew. 21 cases of beer later, we’re done. What a great night. Service seemed to flow smoothly, the beer was cold and plentiful, and the food was stellar as well. Let’s jump right into it, shall we?
All of the beers were fantastic, and provided a great variety. One of my favorite parts was watching people discover that they really do like beer. ”I don’t like hoppy beers.” customers would tell me before taking a sip of Oskar Blues’ Gordon, a hop bomb with a big red carmel malt backbone. Turns out they just don’t like the hoppy beers they’d had before. It helps to have a menu that encourages people to step out of their comfort zone, and try something new. Speaking of the menu:
Watermelon and Heirloom Tomato Salad: with Tartine fry bread, goat cheese and basil
Recommended Pairing: 21st Amendment Watermelon Wheat
Cheese Plate: Langres French washed rind soft cheese with grilled nectarine and balsamic-malt honey
Recommended Pairing: 21st Amendment Brew Free or Die IPA
Banh Mi Fish Taco: Siamese TwinBattered Rockfish with lemongrass guacamole, cucumber, daikon, carrot, jalapeno and cilantro on crispy tortilla
Recommended Pairing: Uncommon Brewers Siamese Twin
Kale and Maitake Gratin: with “beer nuts” spring onions and gruyere
Recommended Pairing: Big Sky Moose Drool
Lamb Belly and Fig: with farmers cheese, shiso and pasilla pepper on a homemade flatbread
Recommended Pairing: Oskar Blues Gordon
Bierwurstbrotten: slice of malted beer-sausage bread griddled and topped with caramelized onions and Black Noddy gravy
Recommended Pairing: Buckbean Black Noddy
Smoky Chicken Wings with pear, celery, and rocquefort
Recommended Pairing: Oskar Blues Gordon
Brioche Donuts: one light malt and toasted coconut and one dark malt and chocolate frosted
Recommended Pairing: Maui Brewing Coconut Porter
There should be a picture of a scoop of ice cream here. You’ll just have to trust me that the Humphry Slocombe 21st Amendment Watermelon Wheat Ice Cream was stellar. It isn’t that exciting to look at or photograph without anything else on top. Instead, here’s Humphry Slocombe’s Sean enjoy his carefully selected favorite beer of the night.
And lastly, the beer float, made with Humphry Slocombe Cinnamon Brittle Ice Cream in Uncommon Brewers Siamese Twin Belgian Double.
I’m still full. A huge thanks to the breweries who generously provided us with such a deep beer list, and helped us to raise money for the MSF charity of the week. Hopefully we’ll be back next season, with some winter warmer beers to steel us against the cold San Francisco winter.

Ive been lurking your blog for awhile, and really enjoy it, especially living in the Bay Area.
This canned beer fest is awesome, and i cant believe i missed it….
So many beers are crossing back to cans, and to me, its a blessing…people think cans=crappy beer, but obviously, thanks to Oskar’s and 21st Amendment, we can debunk that theory.
