Mission Beach Cafe Beer Dinner
The Mission Beach Cafe‘s Beer Dinner with Shmaltz Brewing was a great success. Tom and his kitchen crew did a bang up creating dishes that reflected creativity in beer and food pairings. Nearly every dish featured components that were brined, marinated and infused with beer and beer ingredients. He managed the difficult task of balancing his own personal style of seasonal fresh food with beer and the flavors that beer brings to the table. Shmaltz brought some big beers to the table, including the seasonal Rejewvenator, which is brewed with dates. In response, MBC showcased great culinary skill, while keeping the beer front and center. Some of my favorites included beer brined quail with a pale malt gastrique, octopus in a hop vinaigrette, and a beer sabayon courtesy of Allan, the house pastry chef.

I’m very bummed I had to miss it, too. I could not get out of working. It looks incredible. As always, beautiful shots.

@ Mike W – I can look into it, or perhaps do some of my own experimentation. This might be a good one for Eli to pursue, and put her culinary degree to work.
