SF Beer Week: Bistro Double IPA Festival Open Thread
I can’t make it to the Double IPA festival, although I certainly know I’ll be missing a good time. With this being an the anchor opening event to SF Beer Week, I thought I’d open up a thread to leave comments on how the festival went. Positing pictures and tasting notes is encouraged.
Updated: Via Jay, the winners from the Double IPA Festival:
- 1st Place: Poorman’s Double IPA, Pizza Port Brewing
- 2nd Place: II Max, Triple Rock Brewing
- 3rd Place: Apex, Bear Republic Brewing
- 4th Place/Honorable Mention: Pliny the Elder, Russian River Brewing
- People’s Choice Award: Pliny the Younger, Russian River Brewing
Congrats to the winners, especially Roger at Triple Rock, who is also happens to be showing off his IPA skills with IPAX IPA at another Dinner. As it works out, I had a Pliny the Younger at Toronado tonight, and heartily agree with Rob’s sentiments about it. It late and I have more Beer Week plans tomorrow. So enjoy Rob waxing poetic about it’s hoppy notes – I could never pull off describing a hop forward flavor as a “quick, prickly forest bite like pushing past pine and fir” and get away with it – while enjoying this picture of him sticking his head inside a mash tun at Anchor Brewing.
While at Toronado I saw someone order a 3L bottle of Duvel. Now that’s getting into the spirit of things.
